The picture with the candy scattered across the table gets my vote. This image used juxtaposition with the appearance of the scattered candy demonsrating 'randomness' & disarray when in reality, each piece was meticulously placed, indicating order. Also, the fact that they chose a white background worked effectively since it highlighted the colours of each candy wrapper (selective focus). They chose their lighting effectively by choosing it to be centered on the blue, red and orange candy's and making everything else darker (selective focus). It was placed in the middle of the scene emphasizing the subject. The reflection from the jar as well as the glare from the blue candy made the picture more realistic.

I think that the pack of cards pic is my favorite, because it captures the motion of the moment. The first card is clear cut and the rest are blurred using selective focus. It also uses the rule of thirds and places the subject off centre. Since it is nearest to the lens, it creates depth of field. It could have been improved if the subject was more clear and sharp. I liked the photo with the cat in it which had a pink collar. I think that the composition is used very effectively as the cat is on one side but not flat on the middle. The angle is a high angle shot and makes the cat very lively. From the picture, you can clearly see the emotion of the cat. The lighting used was wonderful, and selective focus was also used. I think that there was a slight boost in colour. Apart from that, the image should not have been vastly edited.

My favorite photo is the one with the turquoise marble atop the book: the sepia finish of the pages gives off a feeling of nostalgia and the palette contradicts, yet complements. The golden yellow brown of the pages offsets and complements the turquoise blue and emphasizes it. Furthermore, the more subtle and darker colors in the background further pushes the marble into the viewers attention. The spine of the book creates a leading line through the photo, and by resting the subject onto the leading line, we draw further attention to it. The repetition of the pages, (open book) and also the reflection of the marble onto the pages of the book creates an interesting echo and reflection of subject and background, enhancing the composition and effectively binds the picture together and ties the subject in with the background. The fact that the subject is placed rather far within the composition of the photograph is interesting, as it pulls the viewers sight further back along the entire picture, and also by using selective focus, the words on the pages are blurred out, and the pictures in the far background are completely blurred out giving an interesting feel to the photograph. The slightly off center angle this photograph, and the curved pages gives this photograph a slightly morphed feeling, and a depth that blurs the line between the sharply focused center to the intensely blurred sidelines. The lighting is very dim, but still manages to capture just the right amount of detail needed to make this photograph the amazing photo it is. Do you find this valuable? |

The photo that I like the most is the picture with the mask reflecting in the mirror. First of all, the overall theme of the picture is great: a theatre mask set out in an almost dressing room kind of table, with a dressing room-like mirror. I like the idea of the other, more complicated side of the mask reflects from the mirror, which might be trying to indicate two different sides to the mask user's or maybe the photographer's personality. Also, the composition is almost pleasing, as both subjects are laid out on power lines. I like the use of lighting and how it is reflected on the lighter, simpler side of the mask. I like how the photographer has also managed to gain a slight degree of selective focus from the other undistinguishable items at the back of the photo. I think that the photo could be edited to be slightly sharper, and when the photo was taken, the antenna-shaped muse in the reflection in the mirror could also be avoided.

Otherwise, I think this is a fantastic photo.

I think the photo with a lot of ribbons would get my vote. This is because oh how everything is in a vocal point as well as having leading lines that seem to take you deeper into the picture. This picture also fills the frame. There is also a nice contrast from a wide range of colours and the subject is off centre.

Out of all the selections in the vid, my favorite photo must be the tunnel photo, it is yet original and left me with a HUGE question mark. When the photo was first took, the amount of lighting was certainly huge, and after editing it, the lighting showed kind of a "glowing" effect. This could possibly used of an album cover in the future. :D

I think that the photo with the mask gets the win here. The lighting of red gives a sense of eerie and damp mood. The atmosphere is creeping. The mask is on the power line and smiling, giving this awkward silence of creepiness. The red lighting is quite symbolic and makes you feel dark and evil. This is the photo to win!

I think the photo that was the best was the marble that was reflected into a heart on a book, because the colours are very bright, and the marble stands out. Also, selective focus was used, and I think it worked quite well as the first thing you see when you see the photo is the marble, because selective focus was used and because of the colour.

The photograph that captured Times Square at night was my favorite. Two thirds of the picture itself was the times square building itself, causing the vanishing point to be off center and further fabricated the illusion of depth. The sepia set on the picture itself gives the picture an antiquated feel, and somewhat establishes an atmosphere at first glance. The flash of light on the side of the picture is contrasting to the otherwise duller background.

I think that the photos with the candles is the best because the photographer has used selective focus. The monochrome palette to create a spooky atmosphere and the candles acts as a leading line, leading the viewers eyes to the darkness in the background.

I think the photo with the blue marble in the book was brilliant. Even though the subject was not off centre and the rules of thirds did not seem to be present, the photo seemed strangely spooky and symbolic. I think that it was very creative.Do you find this valuable? |

From the selction of photos I liked the photo of the fabrics placed next to each other in rows. It caught my attention because it was colourful and bright. I like the fact that the focus was to the left of the photo (off centre). The ribbons fill the frame. It has selective focus. The focus is in the foreground. It includes horizontal composition. The lighting is very good. The photo manages to capture the right amount of attention. The picture is clear and sharp.

I think the photo of the 4 leaf clovers in the sunlight picture attracts me the most. That picture clearly used a lot of symmetry to show a great effect and this helped add to the the effect of repetition. This picture used the rule of thirds as the clovers were clearly only on the left side of the photo. The picture was very bright and clear and had a variety of photographic techniques.

The photo with the monkey sitting on the window gets my vote, because I think it looks thoughtful, sitting alone in a high building. The mist gives a more heavier feeling
