Start here if you are not sure what a pre-production project is!

Note - you do NOT have to wait for one stage to be complete before starting the next. You can start working on audience and desk research while waiting for your client to respond, for example.

STAGE 1 - THE IDEA - COMPLETE BY MONDAY MAY 18

BRIEF:

I am planning to make a promotional video for the hip-hop classes at Glenda Allen Dance Academy (GADA). My client is the owner of GADA, Glenda Allen. My target audience is people - mainly girls - ages 7 - 15. The purpose for the promotional video is to get people to want to join GADA hip-hop classes.

STAGE 2 - RESEARCH - COMPLETE BY MONDAY MAY 25

DESK RESEARCH:

This is a promotional video for hip-hop classes in London. This video has a lot of information in it, and they still managed to put in videos of the different classes.
The soundtrack in the video is of the hip-hop genera, as this is a hip-hop video. The music goes along with the dancers as they show the classes, as it makes them look like very good dancers. Also at the end it goes into a famous song by Nelly Furtado.
The information is shown at the beginning and end to make sure that the person watching will remember the information after they see the classes. Also they show that the classes are longer, that may interest the viewer because they would be able to spend more time enjoying the class. The information is put on by a zoom out format, as it makes it look a little bit funkier. Also the information is up for a good amount of time so that you can read it.
When the videos of the classes come up they are in all different shots. The shots very as to how you can see the class. It is sometimes at a side view through the mirror, as that would be a class that has many people in it. Sometimes it will be a long shot, as the class is smaller so they can fit everyone in. There are different classes in the videos to show that there are really different classes, and to show that there are a verity of people that go to the classes.
There are many males in the video, as hip-hop is seen as a type of dance that men do. But there are females in the video too. They are saying that everyone is invited to go the classes. Also there are people of different races there too. Again it is saying that everyone is invited to go to the classes.

This is an advert for Nike® products that a dancer would use.
The advert doesn’t have any written out information. The dancer just talks about her dreams. As Nike® is a well known company no one needs to know any information where to get the brand stuff.
The soundtrack is the music that the dancer is dancing to. As this is an advert for dancing it makes since to use music that the dancer is actually dancing to. Also having the music up-beat keeps people awake.
The type of dance that she is doing is hip-hop, as that is one of the most well known type of dance and people see it in videos all the time. Also all the different tricks will make people want to be able to do them. So they will go out and buy the clothing and shoes in the advert.
There are many different camera angles in the advert. This helps make the video more flashy and cool. There are two shots that are on the shoes. They are there to promote the shoes that she is wearing, to make them look very cool and in the second shot it shows their flexibility. Then there are a few shots that start from the floor and go up to either her face or shoes (depending on if she is upside down or not) to show the whole of her outfit. The cut is very fast, to make people watch closely or they will miss something. Also fast cuts attract young audiences as they get bored with something very quickly.
For dancers, what the dancer in this advert inspires them. People always say you have to do this to be an athlete. But it is not like that always. Her saying that she doesn’t need to hear this, or see that just means that she is a stronger athlete. Near the end of the advert she says “But can you honistly tell me… I am not an athlete?”. That inspires dancers to go out and do what they love, no matter what people think. That other dancers, athletic companies and themselves know that dancing is a sport.
This advert is only of a female dancer, as the things that she is advertising is for females. So having a very fit, good dancer female advertise the items will make women want to go out and buy these items - even if they aren’t dancers.
At the end there is the Nike® slogan and logo, that is to make sure that the viewer knows that this is an advert for Nike® items

AUDIENCE RESEARCH:

Having looked here, you should have decided the best way to gather information about what your audience will like and respond to. On this page, you need to include an example of your research methods (eg a link to the online questionnaire you used, a copy of the paper questionnaire or a link to the recording of the interviews you conducted) AND the analysis of the results. The results need to be presented well (Excel or Numbers, please) AND you should be able to show what you have learned about your audience's likes and dislikes and which approaches are likely to work.

STAGE 3 - THE PRE-PRODUCTION - COMPLETE BY MONDAY JUNE 8

The storyboard / mock up / whatever planning method is appropriate to your task. It should be digitised and embedded on this page. You should be able to show what influence the results of your market research have had on your final ideas and approach.

STAGE 4 - THE EVALUATION - COMPLETE BY FRIDAY JUNE 12

Look here for instructions.

STAGE 5 - THE BONUS!

You should have designed a logo for SIS TV. Include your design (and a brief paragraph explaining what you were trying to achieve) here.
