Like the other video, this one is also mostly interpretative as there is no narrative during the video, and at no point is the band shown playing their instruments. · There are various different and unseen ways of dancing which shows the audience that the group are unique and creative. Even on the level of becoming a potential visual representation of the musicians’ performance, this film is purely non-narrative. The members of the band appear without instruments; there is no microphone, no amps, no cheering audience. The video uses a bright palette including a light reflecting sheet as a background, light coming in through the windows and the band members wearing bright coloured clothes. Bright colours have relatively positive connotations which give a slightly happier effect on the audience. The bright colours help represent the band members as happy, fun people. It also fits with the fact that the song has a fast and joyful beat. The video has no editing and is made up of one shot, this is a big difference between the "Bohemian Rapsody" by Queen. The dance in the video includes lots of jumping, kicking and running which represents the group as energetic. This music video tries to create an image of fun, happy, energetic characters that dance on treadmills for fun for the band, representing the band as a fun, energetic, happy group. During the video of Here It Goes Again, the band members of OK GO are presented as being cool, although not in a direct, mainstream manner. They are represented more as quirky cool, as apposed Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody, who are represented as cool in a more conspicuous manner. Icons such as the stereotypically dorky glasses, and the oddly matched clothes would appear to craft a representation that is the opposite of cool, but in fact, they are represented as cool. The whole concept is trying to appear to be uncool, is seen as cool.
Representation in Bohemian Rapsody by Queen
The back drop of the video bohemian rapshody is black. The lead singer of the band wears white so he will stand out in the video. There are spotlights shining on to him which shows that he is special and he is the star attraction.
As the piano comes in, lights come on, revealing the band standing and singing. They are standing in the darkness, dressed all in black, with smoke swirling around them. As the lead singer sings, his face, transparent, is placed over the image. The lights and the smoke serve purpose of making the performers look mysterious.
Many high angle shots as well as close-ups are used, this shows the superiority of the lead singer and memebers of the band.
The long hair on all the band members represents them as a rock group. As at the time most rock bands had long hair. Wearing white showed them as a clean and pure band, though this does not symbolize rock music. Most of the camera shots are either close up shots or mid shots, no long shots. This shows that the music is very important because it makes the audience think that the shots are based on the music and the way he is playing it. Most of the shots concentrate on the band member either singing or playing the piano or guitar. The entire band are wearing white this sticks out considering the background is This might be to represent the importance of them. Some camera shots are also low angle shots making the band members look big. This might emphasize the importance of them even more. The lighting in the show is also fixed onto them this causes the same effect, as the two other stated in making them look important. Many of the shots are also panning or zooming. This emphasizes the main character again.
In contrast to OK GO's representation as quirky cool, Queen represented as cool in a very prominent way. Icons such as the guitars, the long hair, and the attire of the band members, craft a representation of cool in a very obvious manner. Sex appeal, crafted through the clothes of the lead singer, is used to further the representation of the band as cool, talented and unreachable. In the 1970, this flashy type of appearance picture the band as superficial characters.
The shots used in the video are mostly consisted of close ups and mid shots (mainly from low angles) that exposes Queen's facial expression and body language.
