Before Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen was already successful from Queen, Queen 2 and Sheer Heart Attack. They were signed under Major Labels, EMI and Elektra which allowed them to create a unique music video. The Bohemian Rhapsody had an unusual musical structure and the meaning of the song was never revealed by lead singer Freddie Mercury, this follows the Reception Theory. It is said to be the first music video of its time and also the most expensive recording since four studios was used and different instruments. A copy of Bohemian Rhapsody was given to DJ Kenny Everett who played the song in bits and pieces and soon it was played 14 times on air which was caught on by other Major Radio Stations and the whole song was played. Bohemian Rhapsody was created for the band to be on tour and appear “live” on BBC’s Top of the Pops. Civen

Audience theory is apparent in the music video. Being split up into different parts, it appeals to different audiences using mainly personal identity and personal relationship appeal from the uses and gratifications theory. The different members of the band are dressed up differently to show icons of different music styles or age group connotations. This is to appeal to different audiences of different gender, age and demographics. Lighting and studio setup differs with each part to appeal to different audiences. Victoria

Ok Go’s ‘Here it Goes’ music video does not follow the general conventions of other music videos, which made it very unique. The band did not have enough budgets to do the fancy editing; which is evident since the video is recorded as just one shot. The angles do not change, no cut scenes; they basically had one go to do the video. However this unique and different idea of using a common exercising machine with no particular editing made this video extremely popular. The band got the “Best Short-Form Music Video” for their virtual music video. Also. The video got over one million viewers on the popular media site YouTube. The band used advantages of media synergy by distributing their video primarily through internet. Moeka
