STAGE 1 - THE IDEA - COMPLETE BY MONDAY MAY 18

BRIEF:
I am planning to promote the opening of the new Red in Soho using a video advertisement. The client is the owner of red, Bruce Rockowitz. The target audience are young adults age range from 18-25. The purpose for my piece is to promote it's grand opening and to let everyone now that there is a new opening as well as to advertise about all aspects of the venue. This includes the bar (Cocktails,mock-tails, sodas etc.) , amazing cuisine (Being the restaurant) as well as the club which includes the amazing music that comes with it. I am planning to show that during the day the venue is a restaurant where anyone can eat, as well as socialize with others at the bar but at night it is then this huge night spot with great music remixed by a DJ. This is only a brief outline of what I'm going to plan but it's the idea. We (Arabella and I) have talked to him very briefly but want he wants is the advertisement to be very young generation due to the fact that it is to attract young adults. We have a meeting with him during this week.

THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPRESSED IN MEDIA STUDIES TERMS - AUDIENCE, PURPOSE, LINE OF APPEAL, BRANDING AND SO ON
Look HERE for website.
This is the only website they have for their venue and they have had no past advertisement meaning this will be their first (If we ever decide to make one bare in mind).

DESK RESEARCH:

Thai Restaurant Commercial:

This is a one minute video of a Thai restaurant and bar venue. The target audience is definitely ranging from ages 30-50 HOW DO YOU KNOW?and no evidence is shown that it is targeted to a certain sexualityDO YOU MEAN GENDER?. They are trying to attract customers to eat in their restaurant and to also share Thailand and the beauty of Thailand such as its cuisine and culture. You mean they're using the representation of Thailand to brand their own restaurant?
It is recognizable that the target audience, or the Demographics, of this advertisement is a range of the years 30-50 because of the use of editing in this advertisement. This is shown by the use of slow and boring Do you think they wanted it to be 'boring'? editing as well as the soundtrack being dull and tranquil. They haven’t amplified the footage by using any contrasting or change of saturation. From the advertisement you see that the venue isn’t that exclusive so a person with an average income pay would be able to afford a meal here. I want to do the opposite of what they’ve done to their video. This is due to the fact that my target audience is a lot younger.
The colour pallet is very insipidAvoid being so judgemental!, it ranges from yellow to red. The colours looking quite grey. The colour makes the video look like it was made by an amateur as well as looking quite low budget. I am not sure if they did this intentionally because we have to take into consideration that this could be due to the lack of quality youtube offers.
The filmography of this video is quite plain consisting of only close up shots and medium shots, all shots being eye level. This does not show any use of camera skills at all which then makes the piece very mundane. It does start of with a zoom out establishing of the logo, which is an idea I may consider for my piece but instead of just the logo it would be from logo to restaurant. When filming the food they would use a close up/extreme close up.
The use of soundtrack was rubbish as all they used was direct sound which isn’t very ideal and can sound terrible at times. Studio could and should have been used for this advertisement as it is better quality and it is also easier to control. The voice overs weren’t so bad and were well controlled. But I would suggest dubbed dialog in which the actors would had to have lip-sync their speeches. Music is one of this advertisements biggest downfall due to the fact that it disappears halfway through the video making this advertisement unbearably boring and tedious.
Overall the advertisement isn’t that bad if it was targeted to the ages of 30-50 but seeing as it mentioned that it was a family restaurant it didn’t give that impression at all through the use of soundtrack and editing. For my video this advertisement gives me a guideline on what not to make and has to basically be the opposite of this. Some good ideas - well done! Be aware that you can express all of this much more in Media Studies language, though, and try to avoid being vague - eg, saying that your video 'needs to be the opposite of this.'

"Search night club" advertising video:

This is the type of advertisement that I am aiming to make. The target audience are the age range of 18-25, I personally think it is aimed towards men. They are trying to customers to go to their venue. To eat and or drink and shows that their is a wide amount of activities this venue can offer.
It is shown in this advertisement that the Demographics of this advertisement is aimed to male 18-25 year olds with an high amount of pay. I say high amount of pay because the venue, judging by the advertisement, seems to be very exclusive. So by this I can already tell that the prices of everything there, being the food or drinks, will be very expensive. I say the age group ranges from that because the club itself looks very young age/new generation. Not only that but the use of editing and soundtrack is really thought out and gives the image of the club being very modern. I personally think that it is for males because of the amount of sexually appealing women used in this advertisement. The denotation of the advertisement shows the main character being a women to show men that women go out to drink here. The advertisement then connotes that sex is included in the package at the end of the night, if you go to this venue. This technique of ‘sexual attraction’ is used a lot in media and or advertising such as car sales and all of Britney Spears media for example one of her latest videos, Womanizer.
The filmography and the editing is amazing throughout the advertisement. The use of first person throughout the advertisement made it look like you were given a tour throughout the venue as well as a few over the shoulder shots. The transitions from the different scenes were very hi-tech making the club look very modern instead of the using fade black transitions that a lot of advertisements do.
The colour pallet is really funky with uses of blues, reds, purples making this advertisement look very young age which works very well with the soundtrack. However the wardrobe of this advertisement consists of black and white, this might be due to the fashion trend, black and white being ‘in’.
They prove to the audience already through out the advertisement that the club will be playing a very ‘cool/hip’ soundtrack, and my mixing the songs they show that the club also supplies a dj. You notice in The first 30 seconds every time it would ‘fade to white’ it would go with the beat. This makes this advertisement very coherent with the music and worked well.
Overall this advertisement is something I would aspire to make. It shows all aspects of the club in less then a minute (Not including the introduction). As well to give the image of the venue being very modern/young generation. There is evidence throughout the advertisement that it is aimed to the same target audience as my target audience (Being 18-25) with the use of transitions, music and colour pallet.

RESULTS: I went to the IFC and managed to ask 40 people to fill in my questionnaire that looked like my target age group. 30 of them (Who were my target age group) filled my questionnaire and 4 of them were to old. I also managed to even the two different genders and had 15 Males and 15 Females. The different genders had different interests in clubs as my statistics will show:

WHERE ARE THE RESULTS?

Having looked here, you should have decided the best way to gather information about what your audience will like and respond to. On this page, you need to include an example of your research methods (eg a link to the online questionnaire you used, a copy of the paper questionnaire or a link to the recording of the interviews you conducted) AND the analysis of the results. The results need to be presented well (Excel or Numbers, please) AND you should be able to show what you have learned about your audience's likes and dislikes and which approaches are likely to work.

STAGE 3 - THE PRE-PRODUCTION - COMPLETE BY MONDAY JUNE 8

The storyboard / mock up / whatever planning method is appropriate to your task. It should be digitised and embedded on this page. You should be able to show what influence the results of your market research have had on your final ideas and approach.

STAGE 4 - THE EVALUATION - COMPLETE BY FRIDAY JUNE 12

Look here for instructions.

STAGE 5 - THE BONUS!

You should have designed a logo for SIS TV. Include your design (and a brief paragraph explaining what you were trying to achieve) here.
