PARIS, JE T'AIME - a short horror film
Brief Synopsis:
A backpacker alone late one night in Paris stumbles upon a woman, sucking a lifeless man's neck. Incidentally, she turned out to be a vampire. The backpacker then approaches the man, only to be met by the vampire. She stares at him, with a curious expression on her face, but leaves him be. The result of the bizzare incident leads to the backpacker falling down a flight of stairs, smashing his head on the ground and a huge loss of blood. The vampire then 'saves' his life by biting him and turning him into a vampire. The short film ends with a 'romantic' scene of the two kissing, if you would call biting each other's neck kissing.

SOUND
• Usually played with a string instrument
• Very often played in a minor key
• Foley (man made) sounds
• When something dramatic happens, the sound gradually gets louder and louder.
• No dialogue, which emphasizes the music even more.
• Panting (loud breathing sound to show that character is scared)
EDITING
• Short, fast edit when something exciting happens
• Slow edit allows the audience to pay attention and also to develop plot
- Special effects that enhance the impact of the plot, as there is no dialogue - (e.g. Black vignette at the opening scene ultimately highlights the word "Paris", elaborating the complete setting of this short picture. The blackout then lets the "circle" follow what was behind the newspaper- a guy, this eventually comes a realization for the audience that he would be the victim, as emphasis is clearly applied on ONLY his face; allowing us to closely examine each facial interpretation)
CHARACTERS / REPRESENTATIONS
• Like MOST horror movies, the characters were of a supernatural sort - the characters either were (lady), or became (man) vampires.
• The vampires were seen in a very stereotypical sense, e.g the pale skin tone, sharp teeth etc.
• The male and female characters fall in love, which is like many other vampire stories/films.
• There is someone in 'danger' and the 'hero' has to save them - in this short film, it is the male character who is in danger, and the female character who 'saves' him.
•Simple characters- there almost always is a very good and a very bad guy.
• Because the vampire was a woman, she was portrayed as a seductive, alluring character.
• The woman, towards the end, was seen in a new light. Instead of sucking the man's blood for pleasure, she did it to save his life. This isn't really a stereotypical vampire.
PALETTE
• Dark/Dull • The blood color is different, brighter, in contrast to the rest of the film, as it is in orange (à la Sin City)
CAMERA
• Scenes which showed the vulnerability of the innocent character (aka the man) were shot from a bird's eye view
• This can also be seen as shooting from the vampire's point of view.
• Scenes which require capturing the character's emotions were almost all close-ups to show the expressions of the characters.
• Close-ups were also used for very intense moments, such as when the guy was about to be killed.
• a low angle shot was used to show the mighty power and general scariness of the woman vampire when she was first introduced
